"Pottery for All" Instructor, Cindy Reed

My husband John and I moved from Greenville, NC in December of 2019. I grew up in Southern Oregon and John and I met in Florida while both were serving in the Navy. John is from Virginia and we started our lives together there and through life changes have found our way to Aberdeen.

I have always enjoyed making things with my hands and have tried many different art forms such as; painting, basket weaving, woodworking, stained glass, weaving, and pottery. While I have loved everything I tried, pottery became my main love! My only regret is that I didn’t learn it earlier.

In 2004 I took a class at Greenville Recreation and Parks (GRPD), Arts and Crafts Center. I was instantly hooked and now have my own studio at home. I started teaching pottery at GRPD in 2006 and eventually became the pottery coordinator. I taught at GRPD until Summer of 2019.

In 2008, I began teaching art to Pre-K thru 4th graders. Two years later I started a ceramic class for our upper school students. I retired in 2019.

It is wonderful to see students become excited when they create something useful and beautiful they can share with others.

From 2016 -2018 I was the corresponding secretary for the Triangle Potter Guild (TPG) in Raleigh, NC. In 2018-2019 I was the president of TPG.

I love starting with that lump of clay and making something utilitarian from it and then adding to it by carving, altering, color or color combinations of the glazes, and firing techniques.
