Madeline Schaeffer, Writer
I have been a Grayland resident all my life, and I currently live at the beach with my family. I have been writing for 4 years and am entering my senior year of high school at Ocosta Jr/Sr High. I'm also working towards an Associate of Science from Grays Harbor College, with a goal of pursuing Environmental Science at the University of Washington.
I'm passionate about environmental awareness and recently started a recycling program at my school. I was named one of the "85 commended poets" in the "2023 Commended Foyle Young Poet" by The Poetry Society for my ocean conservation poetry. My work in biology class was published by the "Tiger Moth Review", a Singapore-based literary magazine. |
My poetry has appeared in "About Place Journal" a publication by the Black Earth Institute. I have an upcoming piece in the "West Trade Review" a website that features the best contemporary poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction (personal essays/memoir), and publishes a mix of established and up and coming writers/artists.
Ecopoetry joins two of my main interests: Writing and Ecology. I have participated in multiple writing workshops, including the University of Iowa Young Writers Studio.
I am grateful for the guidance I have received via poetry mentorship. I would like to share this opportunity with the youth in my community so that they might also be able to use art as a medium for change.
